Women's Volleyball Splits GNAC Tri Match with JWU and Albertus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/7/17) – The Lasell women's volleyball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match with Johnson & Wales University and Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon in Providence, R.I.

The No. 20 Wildcats of JWU took Lasell down in the first match in straight sets, by scores of 25-9, 25-9, and 25-9. The first-ever ranked women's volleyball team of Johnson & Wales need just 58 minutes to down the visiting Lasers, and improve to 18-0 on the season, only having lost one set.

Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) and Mickayla Shelburn (Waterford, Conn.) combined for eight of the team's 10 kills with four apiece to pace Lasell's offense. Defensively, the Lasers registered 28 digs, led by libero Caitlyn Garcia's (Moreno Valley, Calif.) 10. Setter Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) was yielded to single digit assists for the first time this season, dishing out seven in the effort.

JWU hit over .200 in all sets to take down Lasell, highlighted by .556 in the first set. Elizabeth Hamilton swung into nine of the team's 34 kills, a service aces, and two blocks to steer JWU with 11 points. All but one JWU Wildcat that saw the court recorded a defensive dig, led by Maria Coniglio with nine.

In the latter match, the Lasers won the first set against the Falcons, 25-17, but were avenged in the second, 25-23. Lasell won the ensuing two sets, 25-18, and 25-22, for the 3-1 match score.

Addington swung into 23 kills against the Falcons, and added two service aces for 25 points overall. Shelburn was the only other Laser to swing into double digit kills with 12, while Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) recorded nine. Defensively, Garcia added 22 digs, alongside Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz.), who also added 22.

Three Falcons hit in double digits, led by Genesis Luquis, who added 14 kills and 24 digs.  Ana Gomez and Kimberly Keller registered 10 kills apiece, while Jesselle Guzman also hit the floor for 24 digs.

The Lasers hop back into GNAC action on Wednesday, as they travel to Boston for a 7:00 p.m. match against Simmons.
