Women's Volleyball Goes 1-3 in Saratoga Springs; Tiezzi Hits 2,500 Assists

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Lasell women's volleyball team brought home a 1-3 record from Saratoga Springs, after the annual Skidmore Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Lasell earned a 3-2 victory against Sage, while dropping the alternative matches to Skidmore (3-0), New Rochelle (3-1), and Hunter (3-0). Lasell triumphed over the Gators in its longest match of the trip, coming back to take the second and third sets, 25-23 and 25-22, before sealing the win with a 15-12 fifth set win.

Senior Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) became the third setter in Lasell volleyball history to reach the 2,500 assists mark, with a collective 82 on the weekend. Tiezzi now has 2,544 total assists, chasing the all-time record of 3,000 that was set in 2011.

Junior Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) was named tournament MVP, and ran a stat line of 49 kills, 39 digs, and 53.5 points. Addington was Lasell's kills leader in all but one match, vs. Hunter, where senior Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) stepped up with six kills. Canestro contributed 35.5 points, with 35 kills overall. Additionally, Addington set the new Lasell record for kills in three sets with 19 in Lasell's setback against Skidmore, previously set by Hall of Fame inductee Angele Lavoie. Addington is now the record holder for kills in a single game, kills in three sets, kills in four sets, and kills in five sets.

Senior Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) added six blocks on the weekend to keep her team-leading statistic in-tact, and reached 100 career blocks in Lasell's second match vs. New Rochelle. Eagan has 30 blocks on the season, a total that doubles her next closest teammate.

Defensively, Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno, Valley) hit the floor for double-digit digs in all but one match, highlighted by 28 in the five-set victory over Sage. Garcia currently averages 5.79 digs per set, a statistic that ranks second among conference opponents.

Lasell, now 6-14, will head to Boston, Mass. on Wednesday, October 4 for its next contest. First set between the Lasers and the Rams of Suffolk University if set for 7:00 p.m.
