Addington Breaks Single Game Kill Record; Lasers Drop 3-2 Decision at Framingham

Framingham, Mass. (9/25/17) – Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) swung into 27 kills to set a Lasell women's volleyball record and a new career-high, but it wasn't enough as the Lasers dropped a 3-2 non-conference decision at Framingham State on Monday evening. Addington set the new program-best exactly 11 months after setting the previous record of 24 kills in a non-conference match with Bridgewater State (10/25/17).

The Lasers fall to 4-11 with the loss, while the Rams improve to 5-9 this season with the win.

Lasell jumped out to a lead in the opening set and took the frame 25-12, before the Rams came back in the second set taking the early lead (7-2) and securing the set 25-17.  Lasell took the third game 25-19 and the Rams took the fourth 25-20 forcing a fifth set.

In the fifth set, the two teams were tied on multiple occasions including 6-6 after a Framingham hitting error.  The Rams scored the next three points on an error by the Lasers and back-to-back aces from sophomore Alexandra Fish (Lincoln, RI).  The Rams extended the lead to as many as four on a pair of occasions including 14-10 before taking the 15-10 victory on a block from freshmen Abbie Badgett (Boston, Mass.) and Michaela Cronin (Hampden, Mass.).

Addington also added 17 digs in her court-leading performance, while freshman Mickayla Shelburn (Waterford, Conn.) added 12 kills and two blocks.  Senior Michele Canestro (Castleton, NY) added 11 kills and 22 digs, while Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) added 56 assists and 22 digs.  Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) led all players with a match-best 27 defensive digs.

The Rams were led on the attack by nine kills from sophomore Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) and eight from Fish.  Fay also recorded 20 digs, four assists and two service aces, while Fish added 11 digs and three aces.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) chipped in with 19 digs and 24 assists, while senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Brenna Marquis (Coventry, Conn.) added 22 and 14 digs respectively.

The Lasers host Newbury at 7:00 p.m. in the Athletic Center on Wednesday, while the Rams are back in action the same night when they travel to Salem State for a MASCAC match, also at 7:00 p.m.
