Lasers Rally to Defeat Bridgewater 3-2 on Senior Night
NEWTON, Mass. (10/25/16) -- The Lasell College women's volleyball team earned its fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night, topping non-conference foe Bridgewater State University in a five-set contest in the Athletic Center.
The Lasers won the second, third and fifth sets to move to 11-16 on the season, while the Bears slip to 10-17 with their third loss in four matches.

Sophomore Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) posted a career-high 24 kills to pace the Lasers' attack, including four of the team's eight in the deciding fifth set. Juniors Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) and Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) chipped in with 15 and 12 kills, respectively.

Junior Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) dished out 51 of Lasell's 60 assists. Sophomore Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was one of three Lasers to post double-digit digs in the contest with 36, marking her first time surpassing the 30-dig marker since the Lasers' second match of the season on Sept. 7 against Colby-Sawyer.

Before the match, Lasell's last at home this season, Cassandra Stout (Plymouth, Mass.) was honored in a Senior Night ceremony. Stout recorded one of the Lasers' 12 service aces and nine digs in the contest.

For the Bears, sophomore Erin Clifford (Hanson, Mass.) posted a team-high 15 kills, while senior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) posted 12 and sophomore Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the defensive effort with 32 digs. Maymon also added 14 digs to increase her career total to 1,009, becoming the third player in BSU history ― and first since 2010 ― to reach the millennium milestone in both kills and digs.

The Bears scored four of the first five points in the opening set and ultimately won by two, thanks to six different players recording kills. BSU took a 17-16 lead on Maymon's first kill of the contest and never looked back as freshman Shannon Grindle (Halifax, Mass.) swung through for the game-winning kill.

Lasell squeezed out close victories in each of the next two sets, winning 25-22 in the second and 25-23 in the third. The second set was again an even one, but featured the hosts securing eight of the final ten points. Addington posted six kills in the second set, including each of the final two to tie the match at 1-1.

Addington posted six more kills in the third, a set in which the Lasers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then earned 11 of the final 18 points. The visitors tied the game at 23-23, but Addington and Tiezzi posted back-to-back kills to swing the match in favor of the hosts.

Bridgewater needed extra points to take a 27-25 win in the fourth set, but Clifford was once again the main offensive piece with five of 11 kills. The Lasers built a 20-16 lead in the game, but surrendered six of eight points to end it.

Tiezzi assisted on all eight Lasell kills in the fifth set, four of which came from Addington. With the game tied 6-6, the Lasers scored six straight points before taking the 15-9 set win.

The Lasers return to action for their final non-conference match of the season on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. at WPI, while the Bears are in action at Emerson that same night.
