Women's Volleyball Tops Mount Ida on Dig Pink Night

NEWTON, Mass. – Decked out in pink attire to show the dedication to the fight against Breast Cancer, Mount Ida College and Lasell College squared off in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball action on Wednesday night at Mount Ida Athletic Center, and the visiting Lasers earned a 3-0 victory by scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 25-23.

Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) and Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) added ten kills apiece for the Lasers, who hit at a .242 clip for the game and held a 42-22 edge in kills and a 52-34 digs advantage.

14 digs came from junior libero Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.), while the offense ran through Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.), who had 37 assists and 10 digs in the win.

With ten kills and ten digs, Mount Ida junior Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) posted a double-double, but the Lasers countered with three players in double-digit kill totals, led by sophomore outside hitter Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.), who led all players with 15 kills and doubled up herself with 12 digs, along with two of Lasell's nine service aces.

Mount Ida got 19 assists and six digs from freshman setter Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.), while senior Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) had a team-high three service aces and eight digs.

The Lasers will head to Northfield, Vt. on Saturday for a GNAC tri-match with Norwich and Suffolk beginning at 12:00 p.m.
