BROOKLINE, Mass. (10/10/16) – The Lasell women's volleyball team jumped back into the win column with a 3-1 victory over Newbury College on Monday afternoon at Hellenic College.

The Lasers shift to 6-14 overall while the Nighthawks break .500 at 6-7.

Sophomore Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) recorded a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs, leading the way for her side in the 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22) victory. Junior Taylor Tiezzi (Meridan, Conn.) also registered a double-double for Lasell with 33 assists and 18 digs. Junior libero Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) led the Lasell defense with 19 digs on the night.

Nighthawks senior Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) lead Newbury with 19 kills and also recorded six digs.

Lasell took the first set with ease, 25-13, before the Nighthawks came back with a 25-21 victory of their own. With the match tied 1-1, Lasell hit .256 to take Newbury 25-20. Lauren Piper (Scarborough, Maine) took the service line after a bad set from the Nighthawk, and strung together four straight points for a commanding 13-3 lead. A final attack error prevented a comeback from the hosts, and gave Lasell a 2-1 edge heading into set number four.

In the final set of the afternoon, both teams battled point for point as the frame experienced 13 ties before Addington and Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) gave Lasell a 22-20 lead. The duo teamed up in the final plays of the set before Garcia swung into a service ace to seal the deal, 25-22, along with the non-conference victory.

The Lasers will return to the Athletic Center on Thursday as they host Emerson College for a 6:00 p.m. tilt.
