Women's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with UMass Dartmouth and Eastern Nazarene

NEWTON, Mass. (9/10/16) – The Lasell women's volleyball team took home two non-conference victories against UMass Dartmouth and Eastern Nazarene in a Saturday afternoon tri-match in Dartmouth, Mass. The pair of wins boosts Lasell to 3-1 this season.

The Lasers took the Lions in three straight sets by scores of 27-25, 25-18, and 25-21. Paced by Amanda DiLeonardo (West Haven, Conn.), who contributed 9.0 points off seven kills and two service aces, the Lasers scored 56.0 total points compared to ENC's 26.0. Sophomore Lucinda Thomas (Windsor, Conn.) followed with eight points of her own via seven kills and a block solo.

Defensively, the Lasers were backstopped by Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley) with 13 digs, and Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) and Lauren Piper (Scarborough, Maine) who each chipped in with ten digs.

In the final match of the afternoon, and another five-set thriller, the Lasers bested the hosting Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth, 3-2, to wrap up the non-conference tri-match. Both teams battled back and forth in the opening four rounds to force a fifth set, where the Lasers dominated the floor with a final 15-9 victory.

Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) racked up 17 kills to lead the Laser offense combined with three block assists for 18.5 overall points. Tiezzi continued her strong defensive performance from game one with 14 digs and 37 assists for her fourth double-double thus far. Garcia added a team-best 14 digs as Lasell's libero, while Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) and Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) rounded out the eventful day with 10 kills apiece.   

The Lasers will commence a two-game homestand on Tuesday, September 13 when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology with first serve slated for 7:00 p.m.
