Women's Volleyball Falls to UNE 3-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Lasell College women's volleyball team dropped its season opener 3-0 to the Nor'easters of The University of New England on Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum. Set scores were 25-20, 25-13, and 25-18.

For the Lasers (0-1), Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) tallied a match-best 10 kills, and Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) added six. Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) posted a double-double with 21 assists and 13 digs. Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) registered a contest-high 15 digs.

Grayson Szczepaniak (Lakewood, Ohio) led the Nor'easters (1-1) with 12 points, behind a team-high seven kills, three aces, and two solo blocks. Rene Roggenbuck (Goffstown, N.H.) added six winners and had a hand in four blocks. Katie Flynn (Merrimack, N.H.) contributed five kills and eight digs. Kristen Falcinelli (Silver Spring, Md.) dialed up 28 assists, while, defensively, Brittany Morrison (Rosemount, Minn.) and Katie Marsh (Melbourne, Australia) combined for 23 digs (13/10) and five aces (2/3).

In the 2nd set, UNE separated from a 9-7 advantage with a 13-1 run, and then in the 3rd, it was a 10-1 stretch by the Big Blue that reversed a one-point deficit (14-13) on the way to the victory.

Both squads return to the court on Wednesday. Lasell is scheduled to host Colby-Sawyer College (7 p.m.) while The Nor'easters will be headed to the University of Southern Maine (6 p.m.).
