Women's Volleyball Takes Home Two GNAC Wins in St. Joe's Tri-Match

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Lasell College women's volleyball team went 2-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday afternoon at The O'Connell Center. The Lasers took the Blue Jays in the first match 3-1, before sweeping Norwich University in the second match, 3-0. With the pair of wins, the Lasers shift to 5-4 in conference play.

Seniors Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had a match-high 11 kills and senior Tiffany Mapusaga (Waianae, Haw.) had nine kills to go along with match-highs of 10 digs and eight aces as USJ defeated Norwich in three sets. Scores by set were 25-9, 25-11, 25-12. The pair were honored before the match – the final one at home of their careers.  

Sarah Lipinski (Farmington, Conn.) added five kills and two blocks for the Blue Jays and Kara Klimaszewski (Naugatuck, Conn.) had 25 assists and seven digs. St. Joseph had its best hitting of the season with 34 kills against only five errors on 73 swings for a .397 hitting percentage. USJ finished the day 11-14 overall and 3-8 in the GNAC.  

Norwich is 4-15 and 0-9. Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) and Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) each had seven kills for the Cadets.  

Earlier in the tri-match, Lasell (11-19, 5-4) defeated USJ in four sets (25-10, 25-12, 16-25, 25-17). Mapusaga had nine kills and 14 digs to lead the Blue Jays. Viguee had six kills and seven digs and Cassandra Grimaldi (Manchester, Conn.) had six kills and three blocks.  

Olivia Addington (Orange, Cal.) had a match-high 15 kills and Sharisse Scott-Rawlings (Brockton, Mass.) had 12 for the Lasers. Heather Longley (North Granby, Conn.) added eight and seven blocks, three solo. Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Cal.) had 16 digs and Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) had 34 assists.

Lasell defeated Norwich in three sets (25-8, 25-13, 25-20) in Saturday's other match. Addington had seven kills for Lasell and Taylor Hansen (Gorham, Me.) added five. Lyons and Emily Jordan (Dalton, Mass.) each had five kills for Norwich.

The Lasers will return to home-court action on Monday, October 26 as they host Regis College at 7:00 p.m.
