Panthers Claw Past Women's Volleyball 3-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University swept Lasell College, 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball action on Tuesday evening at Foley Gymnasium by set scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-22. The Lasers drop to 3-12 this season, while the Panthers won their third straight match of the season to improve to 10-3 overall.

Plymouth State jumped out to a lead in the first set, holding a 13-8 margin midway through the set. Lasell battled back and pulled to with one point at 20-19, but the Panthers held off the comeback to take the first set.

The second set was close early on before PSU pulled out to a big lead. The Panthers turned a 10-6 advantage into a 21-7 margin before Lasell called its second timeout. PSU had a 24-9 lead when Lasell put together five unanswered points, but senior Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) registered a kill to finish off the set for the home team.

 Lasell came out strong in the third set, taking 3-0 and 4-3 leads, but PSU got hot and rattled off 12 of the next 14 points to open up a 15-6 margin. The Panthers led 19-11, but the Lasers did not quit, and fought back to pull to within one point at 22-21. Sophomore Clair Sporer (Medford, Ore.) recorded a pair of kills as PSU closed out the set and the match.

Sophomore Odina Ellis (Providence, R.I.) provided strong offense for the Lasers with nine kills, while senior Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) added five winners. Sophomore setter Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) recorded 15 assists, and classmate Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) collected a team-high 13 digs. Ellis and freshman Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) had two blocks each.

Joining Sporer with a game-high 11 kills in the attack for PSU was junior Dani Tabor (Olympia, Wash.) with eight kills without an error and classmate Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H.) with seven kills without an error. Perrotta ran the offense and registered 30 assists. Junior libero Rachel Morrissey (Salem, N.H.) topped the team with 16 digs, and Tabor and junior Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) added two blocks each.

Lasell returns home to host Mitchell College and Mount Ida College on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m., as PSU continues a seven-match home stand on Saturday at Foley Gym, hosting Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College at noon.
