Rhode Island College Sweeps Women's Volleyball 3-0

Providence, R.I.--Rhode Island College swpet Lasell College 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20), in non-conference women's volleyball action at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening. The Lasers drop to 1-10 overall while the Anchorwomen advance to 4-3, winning their third straight game. 

Lasell was paced by sophomore middle blocker Odina Ellis (Providence, R.I.), who finished with a team-best nine kills. Sophomore setter Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) led the Lasers with 18 assists and sophomore Libero Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) finished with a match-best 23 digs.

Rhode Island College senior outside hitter Kelsey Lace (Glendale, R.I.) recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, while outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, R.I.) finished with six kills, two services aces and a .333 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Abigayl White (Coventry, R.I.) finished with a match-best 29 assists, while junior libero Megan Armburg (Swansea, Mass.) finished with a team-high 17 digs.

The Anchorwomen breezed through the first set, hitting .226 as a team to secure the 25-17 set victory. The next two matches were a much closer battle, with the two teams trading the lead, until later on when RIC was able to pull away for victories in both sets.

In upcoming action, Lasell will travel to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday, September 17 for a 7:00 p.m. game time, while Rhode Island College opens up Little East Conference play at Keene State, and also face Framingham State, on Saturday, Sept. 19.
