Women's Volleyball Drops Two in GNAC Tri-Match

NEWTON, Mass. (9/27/14) – The Lasell College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference matches on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the University of St. Joseph's before dropping a 3-2 result to Norwich University. The University of St. Joseph's picked up a 3-2 victory over Norwich in the third match of the day. The Lasers slid to 2-16 overall and 0-2 in GNAC play, while USJ climbed to 8-2 on the year and 4-0 in league play, while Norwich moved to 5-8 and 1-1 in conference matches after earning a split on the day.

USJ 3 – Lasell 1

The visiting Blue Jays captured the 3-1 victory over Lasell, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-27, 25-22 and 25-11 as they remained unbeaten in GNAC play.

Kathy Cameron and Odina Ellis each notched seven kills for Lasell, Taylor Tiezzi added 19 assists, 14 digs and three service aces and Cameron also finished with six and a half blocks in the match.

Tiffany Mapusaga posted a match-high 14 kills to pace the USJ attack while also chipping in 13 digs. Megan Williams dished out 23 assists and 12 digs, Ciara Perez and Emily Vigue each recorded six blocks in the contest.

USJ 3 – Norwich 2

 

The Cadets opened the match with a 25-18 victory over USJ before the Blue Jays even the match at 1-1 when they captured the second set 25-20. Norwich again took the lead, 2-1 with a 25-22 victory in the third set only to see USJ draw even again with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. The Blue Jays managed to remain unbeaten in conference play when they picked up the 15-12 win in the fifth and final set.

Tiffany Mapusaga led USJ with 14 kills and 11 digs, Ciara Perez added 12 kills and three service aces, and Morgan Williams finished with 32 assists.

Kelly Mancini paced the Cadets with 11 kills followed by Tara Lyons and Alex Palmer who each notched nine kills. Palmer added a match-high 21 digs, and Katherine Crane handed out 36 assists.

Norwich 3 – Lasell 2

The home-standing Lasers claimed the first two sets of the final match of the day, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-17 only to see Norwich recover, winning the final three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 15-13.

Kathy Cameron and Odina Ellis tallied 14 and 13 kills respectively for Lasell and Heather Longley added eight kills. Taylor Tiezzi dished out a team-high 37 assists while also notching 14 digs, Caitlyn Garcia posted a match-best 20 digs and Alyssa Nahigian tallied five service aces for the Lasers.

Kelsey Mancini led the way for Norwich with 10 kills, Alex Palmer and Tara Lyons each recorded nine kills and Alma Turpin chipped in with seven kills. Katherine Crane collected 37 assists for the Cadets, while Alex Rudiger and Alex Palmer tallied 19 and 17 digs respectively.

Lasell returns to the court on Tuesday September 30th at 7:00 p.m. when they host GNAC foe, Simmons College. Norwich will travel to Lyndon State College at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 30th, while USJ will take on NESCAC opponent Wesleyan University at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th as well.
