Women's Volleyball Drops Pair in Home Opening Trimatch

NEWTON, Mass. (9/2/14) – The Lasell College women's volleyball team made their home debut on Tuesday evening in a tri-match with Framingham State and Emerson College. The Lasers fell 3-0 to Framingham in the opener; Emerson picked up a 3-1 victory over Framingham and then knocked off Lasell 3-0 in the final match of the day. Lasell fell to 0-6 on the season, while Emerson improved to 4-0 and Framingham stands at 1-1 for the 2014 campaign.

Framingham 3 – Lasell 0

The visiting Rams picked up a three set victory over Lasell, 25-23, 25-14 and 25-23 to improve to 1-0 on the season.

Meredith Eagan and Michele Canestro each finished with nine kills for Lasell, Canestro added seven digs while Taylor Tiezzi chipped in a team-high 22 assists. Caitlyn Garcia tallied a match-best 11 digs while Alyssa Nahigian notched nine digs in the match.

Alycia Rackliffe notched a match-high 15 kills for Framingham, Maribeth Martin dished out 22 assists and Danielle Girard and Courtney Wilber each totaled 10 digs in the match.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with the largest lead for either team being a three point cushion for Framingham at 17-14. Lasell tied the match at 23-23, before a kill by Rackliffe and a Lasell error gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Framingham raced out to leads of 5-0 and 11-2 in the second set, cruising to a comfortable 25-14 victory to go in front 2-0 in the match. Framingham opened the third set taking an 11-5 lead, forcing Lasell to play from behind. The Lasers slowly crept back into the contest, cutting the visitors lead to 24-23 late, but a Patricia Landerholm kill sealed the set and the match for the Rams.

Emerson 3 – Framingham 1

Emerson opened the match taking the first set 25-17, before Framingham battled back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 win in the second set. Emerson captured a narrow victory in the third set, 27-25 before clinching the win with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.

Jules Augustine tallied a match-best 21 kills in the win for Emerson, Amanda Linzmeyer added nine kills and 2.5 total blocks, and Elaine Nichols finished with a match-high 42 assists in the victory. Sam Harton notched 26 digs for the victors, while Linzmeyer added 13 digs of her own.

Alycia Rackliffe paced the Rams with 10 kills in the loss, while Julia Wan added eight kills and 10 digs. Maribeth Martin recorded a team-high 19 assists in the match while also tallying 12 digs and Danielle Girard totaled six kills and a team-high 16 digs.

Emerson 3 – Lasell 0

Emerson staged a come from behind win in the opening set, trailing 5-1 and 18-12 before eventually picking up the 27-25 win to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions then ran out to a 13-3 lead in the second set, only to see Lasell come all the way back and trim the deficit to three points at 23-20, but they ultimately held on for the 25-12 victory. In the third set, Emerson again took an early 6-2 lead, but were unable to stretch their advantage beyond that, seeing Lasell come back to tie the set at 8-8. Lasell eventually took a 12-11 lead, before seeing the visitors storm back with a 9-3 run and regain the lead at 20-15. Lasell was unable to overcome the deficit the rest of the way, falling 25-18 in the set and 3-0 in the match.

Meredith Eagan and Odina Ellis paced Lasell with seven and six kills respectively, Michele Canestro added five kills and nine digs, while Caitlyn Garcia posted a match-high 15 digs and Alyssa Nahigian chipped in 12 assists.

Jules Augustine tallied a match-high 13 kills and two and a half total blocks for Emerson, and Elaine Nichols handed out a match-best 25 assists, while Sam Harton recorded 14 digs for the Lions.
