Brandeis Stops Lasell, 3-1 in Women's Volleyball

NEWTON, Mass. (10/29/13) – The Lasell College women's volleyball team fell to visiting Brandeis University 3-1 on Tuesday evening by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-18. The Lasers dropped to 16-12 on the season with the loss, while Brandeis earned their 10th win of the campaign to improve to 10-20.

Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) paced the Lasers with 11 kills while Abigail Rollins (N. Caldwell, N.J.) and Kathy Cameron (Boston, Mass.) each finished with nine kills in the match. Rollins added 18 digs on the night while Scott-Rawlins contributed 17 digs. Jordan Seid (Rowland Hts., Calif.) posted a team-high 19 digs while Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) tallied a team-best 30 assists.

Liz Hood (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the way for Brandeis with a match-high 13 kills, Si-Si Hensley (Fullerton, Calif.) added nine kills and Rachel Dye (Broomfield, Colo.) and Carly Gunter-Davis (Del Mar, Calif.) chipped in with seven kills apiece. Amaris Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a match-high 25 digs and Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J.) directed the Judges attack collecting with 34 assists.

The back-and-forth opening set was tied for at 21-21 before Liz Hood notched four kills in the final six points to deliver the first set victory for Brandeis. Lasell ran out to a 7-2 lead early in the second set but Brandeis ground their way back into set at 12-12 and then scored 10 of the next 12 points to build a 22-14 lead, closing out the set with a 25-17 victory.

Lasell built another lead in the third set going in front 19-10 and this time holding off a late Brandeis charge to grab the third set at 25-22 and make it a 2-1 match heading into the fourth set. Brandeis opened up a 13-8 lead in the third set and never let Lasell closer than five points the rest of the way to capture the fourth set 25-18 and close out the match.

Lasell will head to the SUNY Oneonta invitational on Friday November 1st and Saturday November 2nd before the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament opens on Tuesday November 5th. The Judges will host a non-conference tri-match on Saturday November 2nd with Endicott College and Connecticut College, playing at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
