Women's Volleyball Sweeps Corsairs

NEWTON, Mass. (10/17/13) – The Lasell College women's volleyball team swept the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth 3-0 on Thursday evening at the Lasell Athletic Center. The Lasers improved their record to 13-10 for the season while UMD dropped to 6-15 overall. Lasell claimed the first two sets comfortable, 25-11 and 25-12 before closing out the match with a 25-19 victory in the third set.

Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) paced the Lasers attack with a match-high 11 kills and Kathy Cameron (Boston, Mass.) chipped in with five kills and three solo blocks. Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) handed out 16 assists on the evening and Jordan Seid (Rowland Hts. Calif.) keyed the defensive effort with 18 digs in the match.

Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) posted a team-high five kills for UMD, and Brianna Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) collected 13 digs. Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) added 10 assists and six digs for the visitors who were plagued by 31 attacking errors on 99 attempts.

Lasell lead 9-7 in the first set before ripping off a 16-4 spurt that allowed them to win the opening set. Lasell continued their strong play to start the second set, running out to a 19-6 lead and coasting the a 25-12 victory in the second set.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair that saw the score tied eight times and standing at 17-17. Lasell then capitalized on errors by UMD to close out the set 25-19 and take the match.

Lasell will be back on the court on Saturday October 19th when they host Suffolk University at 2:00 p.m. The Lasers will be holding their "Dig Pink" game on the 19th and will also be honoring their seniors, Marisa Visocchi and Anna Feeter prior to the game. UMass-Dartmouth will travel to Gordon College for a tri-match with Daniel Webster on Saturday October 19th with action starting at 1:00 p.m.
