Women's Volleyball Felled in Pair of GNAC Matches

BOSTON, Mass. (9/28/13) - The Lasell College women's volleyball team lost a pair of five-set thrillers in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at Emmanuel College. Lasell fell 3-2 in their first match against Johnson and Wales University before dropping a 3-2 result to Emmanuel in their second match of the afternoon. Lasell slid to 7-9 overall and 0-2 in GNAC play following the pair of losses.

The Lasers won the first set of the match 25-19 before Johnson and Wales evened the match by winning set number two 25-20. Lasell went on top two sets to one with a 25-22 victory in the third set, only to see the Wildcats take set number four 25-15 before sealing the victory in extra time with a 17-15 victory in the fifth set.

Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) tallied 14 kills and added 17 digs for Lasell on the afternoon, while Abigail Rollins (N. Caldwell, N.J.) chipped in with 13 kills. Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) handed out 34 assists and Jordan Seid (Rowland Hts., Calif.) finished with a team-high 21 digs.

Emmanuel 3 - Lasell 2

Emmanuel started off strong, pulling out to a 2-0 match lead with 25-20 and 25-18 set wins. Lasell then rebounded, carrying momentum through sets three and four and forcing a fifth and deciding set. The Lasers took advantage of poor serve receive by the Saints with 25-9 and 25-16 wins. Emmanuel battled back and took the fifth set, 15-11, for a 3-2 match win.

Lasell's stellar serving included 8 aces by Jordan Seid (Rowland Hts., Calif.), who also gathered a match-high 21 digs.  Scott-Rawlins notched a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs.  Rollins tallied 15 kills to lead the offense, while Nahigian ran the show for the Lasers with 39 assists.
