Lasers Topple Regis in Women's Volleyball

NEWTON, Mass. (9/16/13) – The Lasell College women's volleyball team picked up a non-conference victory over Regis College in straight sets. Lasell earned the 3-0 victory, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19, climbing to 5-5 on the season while the Pride slipped to 4-10 for the year.

Sharissa Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) posted a match-high 14 kills to go with nine digs for Lasell and Abigail Rollins (N. Caldwell, N.J.) added 10 kills and nine digs. Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) tallied 26 assists and 10 digs in the match for the Lasers while Jordan Seid (Rowland Hills, Calif.) finished with 15 digs and three service aces. Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) led the way for Regis with eight kills, Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) handed out 17 assists and Sara Gold (N. Hollywood, Calif.) finished with a match-high 16 digs.  

Lasell broke open the first set with a 13-4 run midway through the action, turning a 6-5 deficit into an 18-11 lead, getting four kills from Scott-Rawlins in the stretch and closing out the first set, 25-17.

The Lasers pulled in front in the middle of second set, breaking a 6-6 tie and running off 14 of the next 19 points to go in front 20-11. Regis responded by going on a 9-3 run, trimming the Lasell lead to 23-20. The Lasers scored the next two points to take the 25-20 victory in the second set.

Regis opened the third set by jumping out to a 5-2 lead, but Lasell ground their way back, tying the match at 9-9. The two teams traded four point spurts, deadlocking again at 13-13 and 14-14 before Lasell went in front for good. The Lasers scored three straight to take a 17-14 lead and closed out the match by winning the third set 25-19.

Lasell will return to action Tuesday September 17th at Rhode Island College at 7:00 p.m. while Regis will be back on the court on Thursday September 19th when they host Southern Maine at 7:00 p.m.
