Women's Volleyball Splits at Tri-Match

Northfield, VT- The Lasell College women's volleyball team split at a tri-match over the weekend, beating Castleton State College, 3-0, and falling to Norwich University, 0-3, in GNAC play. 

 

Lasell first matched up against the Norwich Cadets in conference action, losing in three very close sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-20).  An always impressive Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) scoured the floor, picking up 25 digs in the three sets as the team's libero.  Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) also had a strong match, dishing out 23 assists, adding three service aces, and digging 11 balls.

 

Sophomore middle Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) put down 10 kills on the attack for Lasell.  She also came up with two solo and one assisted block on defense.  Aiding Drapeau on the offensive attack was freshman Liz Nichols (Southington, Conn.).  Nichols continues to be an imposing presence for the Lasers making nine kills on 31 total attacks.  Nichols also had four digs, one solo, and one assisted block.

 

Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) and Jenna-Lynn Geary (Marion, Mass.) were also tough on the defensive side.  The duo combined for 17 digs, with Geary producing nine and Costa grabbing eight.

 

During the second match of the day, Drapeau and Nichols were stellar at net once again, leading the Lasers to three quick winning sets of 25-7, 25-22, and 25-20. 

 

Drapeau came up with a game-high of 14 kills, while Nichols was close behind with 13.  Both of the middles hit an impressive .429 clip for the match.

 

Crozier distributed 27 assists to her fellow Lasers, and Geary came up with a game-best of 18 digs over the course of the match.  Major and Costa each produced nine digs, and Lauren Short (Scarsdale, NY) picked up an additional eight digs, adding two aces to the mix.

 

The Lasers open up on their home court on Thursday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Lasell College Athletic Center.
