Track and Field Competes at Regis and AIC

WESTON, Mass., SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (4/7/17)- The Lasell men's and women's track and field teams competed at Regis College and American International College this past Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Regis Spring Classic started in the field where junior Josh Nixon (Bloomfield, Conn.) leaped his way to a season best in the triple jump, hitting a mark of 10.80 meters.  Freshman Alex Desharnais (Kingston, Mass.) threw a personal best in the discus and javelin, garnering a top 10 finish in the discus.  In the 100-meter dash sophomore Benjamin Lane (Rutland, Vt.) placed third overall, and came back to take on the 200-meter dash where he was able to secure the victory with a new school record and New England Division III qualifying time of 22.84. 

On the women's side sophomore Jordan Immerman (Tarzana, Calif.) was able to jump to an outdoor personal best.  In the 100-meter dash senior Ayumi Ranucci (Auburn, Maine) and freshman Stephanie Amato (Westford, Mass.) saw themselves run into the top 10 with 8th and 9th place finishes.  Freshman Alexandra Clancy (Beverly, Mass.) hit a personal best, lowering her time by nearly .5 a second. 

After a strong showing at Regis, the men's and women's track and field teams headed out west to take on a loaded field at the 7th annual Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by American International College.  The meet consisted of top competition with strong DIII and II schools including AIC, Stonehill, Sothern Connecticut State, and Bentley.

Nixon came back from a strong performance on Friday to leap to another personal best, but this time in the long jump where he soared to a 5.45-meter jump.  Desharnais threw an outdoor personal best in the shot put by over two inches, while on the track, freshman Mark Greenwald (Monmouth, Maine) ran a personal best in the 1500 meters.  In the 100-meter dash, Lane placed 13th overall out of more than 50 runners and ran a personal best and new school record of 11.36. 

For the women, Ranucci ran an outdoor personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.65, and came back to compete in the 200-meter dash, running a season best time.  Freshman Karli Manship (Pittsfield, Mass.) ran the 1500 meters and had a strong race to hit a personal record.  Junior Lauren Lenahan (Weymouth, Mass.) ran a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.10.

The Lasers will compete next Saturday at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State University.
