Track and Field Makes 16-17 Debut at UMass Boston Invite

BOSTON, Mass. (12/3/16) – The Lasell College men's and women's track and field teams began a new season at the UMass Boston Invitational inside the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday Afternoon.

The Lasers saw a handful of collegiate debuts at the event, as Massimo Cugno (Medford, Mass.), Matt Holden (Methuen, Mass.), and Anthony Liriano (Elmira, N.Y.) posted a top performance for the men's team. Cugno finished the 400m race with at 59.06, while Holden ran his first indoor 1,000m at 2:54.88. Liriano threw for 10.14m in the shot put pit, just 1m short of the all-time record.  

Veteran distance runner Ryan Dalaba (North Granville, N.Y.) shattered his 3,000m personal best by ten seconds, finishing at 9:53.92 in the season opener. For the sprinters, returner Ben Lane (Rutland, Vt.) competed in the 60m and 200m dashes, posting a 7.54 and 24.18 finish time. Kyle Vonick (Wethersfield, Conn.) followed in the 500m race at 1:11.15.

On the women's side, the Lasers' top performances came from two runners in their rookie seasons, Alexandra Clancy (Beverly, Mass.) and Megan Stella (Warren, Mass.). Clancy finished the 60m dash in 9.30, while Stella ran the 800m in 2:49.81. Jordan Immerman (Tarzana, Calif.)  returned to the long jump pit and posted a best-jump of 4.00m.

The Lasers are back on the track on Saturday as they return to the Reggie Lewis Center for the Jay Carisella Invitational.
