Track and Field Improves All Around in Eastern Invite

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (4/19/15) – The Lasell College men's and women's outdoor track and field team posted a strong performance this past weekend in the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational. 

Freshman Nick Garifalos (Spotswood, N.J.) highlighted the event for the men, placing first in the 800m race with a personal record and a Lasell College best of 1:59.09. 

Sophomore Shawn Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) also recorded a personal best in the 400m dash at 57.24, sprinting past his previous time of 59.16. Junior Andrew Panther (Cheshire, Conn.) clocked in at 23.96 in the 200m, while freshman Jordan Bowman (Salem, N.H.) finished just after at 24.25. 

In the field events, senior Tyler Schwabe (Ayer, Mass.) set a personal record of 32.59m in the discus throw. Sophomore Michael Rudin placed third in the men's javelin event, tossing a personal best of 41.72m. Bowman flew over the previous Lasell College record in the long jump, with a final distance of 6.50m.

The women dominated the field events, as junior Heather Longley took first place in the discus throw at 33.67m, overthrowing the previous Lasell record she set in 2013. Junior Cassandra Stout (Plymouth, Mass.) chucked the javelin 33.92m, placing second in the event while setting a new Lasell College record. 

Junior Jaime Russo (Watertown, Mass.) PR'd in the 800m run, trimming .20 seconds off of her time for a 2:37.40 finish. 

Both teams resume the track on Sunday, April 26 as they travel to Regis College for The Pride Invitational.
