Zeig and Cooley shine in Women's Track and Field Outdoor Opener

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (3/18/14) – The Lasell College women's track and field team kicked off their outdoor schedule at the Bridgewater State University meet. The Lasers successful 4x200 meter relay team from the indoor season made their debut in the 4x100 meter relay in the outdoor season and senior thrower Chelsea Zeig became the first women's thrower to compete in the javelin.

The 4x100 relay of Ayumi Ranucci, Melissa Cooley, Talia Gabriel, and Tatyana George placed seventh with a total time of 53.37 in their debut. Zeig competed in three events for Lasell, debuting in the Javelin with a distance of 23.52 to place 27th along with a sixth place finish in the shot put while setting a new outdoor personal best with a throw of 10.70 meters. Zeig also recorded a 13th place finish in the discus with a toss of 27.33 meters.

George and Cooley also ran the 200M dash, placing 17th and 18th respectively as George ran a 29.57 and Cooley posted a time of 29.75. George joined Cooley and Zeig in competing in three events, taking 8th in the long jump with a distance of 4.40 meters while teammate Kendall Logsdon matched her distance of 4.40 meters, taking 9th place. Cooley also posted a strong performance in the 400M, placing 8th with a time of 1:07.94. Logsdon placed 29th in the 100M dash with a time of 15.27, while teammates Ayumi Ranucci and Talia Gabriel finished 22nd and 24th respectively with times of 14.73 and 14.82.

Jamie Russo completed the 400M and 800M double with a 15th place finish in the 800M with a time of 2:49.72 and a 24th place finish in the 400M finishing in 1:13.76. Rachel Knuth placed 25th in the 1500M run just missing cracking the six-minute barrier in her first outdoor meet of the year finishing in 6:00.62.
