Six Top-Ten Performances for Lasell's Women's Track & Field Team on Opening Day

NORTHAMPTON, MA- The Lasell College women's track & Field team produced six top-ten performances and eight new school records during their opening day of competition at the Smith Winter Classic on Saturday morning. Freshman Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT) earned two of those top individual showings with a third place finish in the triple jump (9.99m, 32'9.5") and a sixth place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (9.38). Peck also became the first track & field athlete from Lasell to qualify for the Division III New England Championship with her 55 meter hurdles results.

 

Of the eight new Lasell College women's track & field individual records that were set at the meet, Peck and freshman Kendall Logsdon (Palmer, MA) established two apiece. Peck set records in each of her events while Logsdon recorded bests in the 55 meter dash and the long jump.  Logsdon's finished the 55 meter race in 8.04 seconds and set the long jump record at 4.69m (15'4") coming in 7th place in the latter event. Logsdon also competed in the triple jump, coming in 8th overall with a jump of 9.63m (31'7.25").

 

Junior Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) broke her own Lasell record of 12:24.8 in the 3000m with a new record of 12:20.43.  Missett's race time was good enough for a sixth place finish.

 

Freshman Chelsea Zeig (West Nyack, NY) earned a 10th place finish in the shot put while also setting a new school record.  Zeig tossed the shot put 9.78m (31'1").  The previous institution record was set at 6.73m (22'1 ¾ ").

 

Rounding out the new records were freshman Meridith Bienvenue (Addison, VT), in the 200m dash, and Solange Carpenter (Gorham, ME), in the 600m run.  Bienvenue broke the standing record in the 200m of 34.2 by finishing the race in 33.78.  Carpenter finished the 600m in 1:52.58 (12th place) for her institution-best record. 

 

Freshman Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT) also competed in the 200m dash, completing in 35.91 seconds and sophomore Christina Annicelli (North Easton, MA) finished 12th in the 800m run with a time of 3:09.70.

 

The Lasers will compete next in the New Year, opening up 2011 competition on January 15th at the Brandeis Invitational, at 10:00 a.m.
