WSOC: JWU takes down Lasell in GNAC Semifinal

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Lasell University women's soccer season came to an end Tuesday evening as the fifth-seeded Lasers fell to top-seeded Johnson & Wales University, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) semifinal game at Scotts Miracle-Gro Stadium.

The Wildcats improve to 15-6 and advance to the GNAC championship game for the first time since 2017. JWU will host second-seeded Saint Joseph's College of Maine this Saturday, November 9, at a time to be determined. Lasell, which misses out on a berth in the GNAC title game for the first time since 2009, winds up its season at 9-11 overall.

The Wildcats and Lasers played a hard fought first half, both teams picking up yellow cards early in the action. The Wildcats finally broke through with 3:02 remaining in the half on a service from Cat Nolan about 45 yards from frame, as Molly McCormack beat an offside trap and scored to take a 1-0 lead.

Jordan Restivo received a through ball from Jaclyn Larsen that helped the Wildcats extend the lead to 2-0 10 minutes into the second half. Restivo scored both goals in the Wildcats victory over the Lasers earlier this season.

Nolan rounded out the scoring in the 66th minute with a shot at frame from 35 yards out and found the back of the net over the diving Lasers' keeper.

JWU outshot the Lasers 20-11 and had the advantage on corners 3-1. Sophomore Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) had a valiant effort in goal for the Lasers and finished with eight saves.
