WSOC: Lasers top GNAC foe Saint Joseph’s (Maine); O’Guin scores late game-winner

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Lasell University women's soccer team scored two goals in th final three minutes of the game to defeat Saint Joseph's (Maine), 2-1, in the last regular season game of the year at Brandeis University.

Lasell improves to 8-10 overall and 8-4 in conference. The Monks of Saint Joseph's drop to 13-3-2 overall and 9-2-1 in conference.

The Lasers found themselves down 1-0 for most of the game after McKenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) scored seven minutes into the second half. The Lasers would go on to dominate the visitors after the goal by outshooting the Monks 21-3 with 13 shots on goal.

With just over three minutes remaining in the game, junior Korynne Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.) headed home a goal off of a corner from junior Narissa Libby (Gorham, Maine) to tie the score 1-1.

The Lasers kept the pressure on the Monks, keeping the ball in the visitors defensive third. A handball by the Monks granted the home team a penalty kick with a little over one minute left in the half. Freshman Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, Mass.) fired the ball into the back of the net to score the game-winning goal.

The Lasers will look to play on Saturday, November 2 in the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament. The fifth-seeded Lasers will travel to fourth-seeded Suffolk in a rematch of the October 9 matchup in East Boston, won by the Rams, 1-0.
