EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Suffolk University Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at James A. Sarotri Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

Addisyn Lanza netted what would be the game-winner with less than 10 minutes left in regulation, helping the Rams improve to 7-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the GNAC. Lasell drops to 4-8-0 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play.

Suffolk and Lasell remained deadlocked in a heavily defensive first frame. The Lasers saw several prime chances though, with the first coming in 13th minute as freshman Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, Mass.) sent a rocket from inside the box. Her shot was turned aside by Rams keeper Allison Rodrigues. Junior Narissa Libby (Gorham, Maine) gained control of the ball off of the rebound a few seconds later, but her shot sailed high.

Sophomore Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) looked to set up a scoring chance for the Lasers in the 25th minute when the sophomore dribbled past several Suffolk defenders on the baseline to get off a shot. Rodrigues made a sliding save near the left pipe to keep Lasell off of the scoreboard.

The Lasers continued to pressure the Rams in the offensive zone throughout the remainder of the first half and held an 18-2 advantage in shots heading into the locker room.

Lasell went on the attack early in the second stanza as O'Guin booted a shot from just inside the box. Once again Rodrigues was there to pick up the pieces with another leaping save in the 52nd minute.

Caleigh O'Brien helped get the Rams on the board in the 80th minute as she sent a laser at Lasell goalie, sophomore Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.), who quickly tapped it away. Lanza came rushing in to gain control of the rebound and put the rock into the back of the net to give Suffolk the 1-0 advantage with 9:20 left on the clock.

From there, the blue-and-gold backed up Rodrigues in net to secure the win.

Rodrigues made nine saves to secure the victory for the Rams. Sanzari stopped four shots in between the pipes for the Lasers. Lasell held a 27-9 advantage on shots, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were lopsided in the Lasers favor, 5-2.

Lasell will be idle until next Monday, October 14, when the Lasers travel to Roger Williams University for a non-conference game at 4 p.m. Suffolk remains in Eastie Saturday, Oct. 12 when it entertains Johnson & Wales in a 12 p.m. conference contest.
