Lasell student-athletes receive GNAC Weekly Honors; Perez Diaz and O’Guin recognized for Lasers

NEWTON, Mass. – Two Lasell University student-athletes have been recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Monday for their accomplishments in Laser games last week.

Sophomore Kiana Perez Diaz (Juncos, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) was named GNAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week, and freshman Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, Mass./Newton North) was selected GNAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week. Both were honored by the GNAC for the first time this year, and Perez Diaz was recognized on several occasions last year during a banner rookie campaign.

A sophomore outside hitter, Perez Diaz averaged 5.17 kills and 3.50 digs per set in a pair of Lasell losses. She smashed 19 kills with a .308 attack percentage and made 12 digs in a Tuesday loss to Framingham State, and recorded 12 kills and nine digs Saturday in a loss to Northern Vermont-Johnson.

The 2018 GNAC Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Conference selection, Perez Diaz is one of the top performers in the conference this season. She leads the GNAC in total kills (206), kills per set (3.81), service aces (47) and service aces per set (0.87). She also ranks eight in the conference in digs (184) and digs per set (3.41), which tops all hitters in the league.

Perez Diaz also ranks among the NCAA Division III national leaders in service aces (5th), aces per set (16th) and kills per set (37th).

A freshman midfielder, O'Guin scored one goal and added two assists in a 1-1 week for the Lasers. All of her points came Saturday in a 6-0 victory over GNAC foe Anna Maria, as she assisted on the first-half game-winner, scored Lasell's second goal early in the second half, and assisted on the third goal four minutes later.

O'Guin has started all nine games for Lasell in her rookie season, and now ranks second on the team with two goals and two assists.
