WSOC: Lasell upended at Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Lasell University women's soccer team dropped to 0-2 on the season Sunday with a 2-0 setback to Endicott College at Endicott's Hempstead Stadium.

The Gulls got goals from Madeline Cheney (Bow, N.H.) and Jaymie Caponigro (Swampscott, Mass.) to secure the win. With the win, the Gulls improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Lasers managed just three shots in the whitewash, one each from juniors Sophia DiPlacido (Hudson, Mass.) and Narissa Libby (Gorham, Maine), and sophomore Ella Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.). Endicott out-shot Lasell for the game, 13-3.

Cheney got the Gulls on the board in the 32nd minute when she scored on a feed from Hannah Lederman (Natick, Mass.). The lone tally of the second half would come from Caponigro as the midfielder buried her first goal in an Endicott uniform off a free kick roughly 35 yards out.

Sophomore keeper Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) finished with five saves for Lasell. Endicott keeper Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) made two saves for her first shutout of the season.

Lasell is off until Saturday, September 7, when the Lasers travel to Keene State for a 3 p.m. start. Endicott, now 2-0 on the season, is also off until Saturday when it travels to western Mass. to take on the Pride of Springfield College at 3:00 p.m.
