Lasell Women’s Soccer stunned by Emmanuel in regular season finale

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College used two first-half goals to stun Lasell College, 2-1, in the regular-season finale for both teams in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at Roberto Clemente Field.

The Lasers were unable to complete the comeback effort, snapping their five-game win streak and their 20-game winning streak over GNAC opponents, dating back to last season. For the Saints, the victory marks their first over Lasell since 2007, snapping a 13-game winless streak.

The game wrapped up the regular season for both teams, who both advance to the GNAC Tournament. The eight-time defending champion Lasers (12-5 overall, 11-1 GNAC) are the top seed and will host the eighth-seeded University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Emmanuel is the fourth seed, and will host fifth-seed Regis on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Mikayla Guthrie (North Andover, Mass.) was on the receiving end of a pass from the right wing before laying in the go-ahead goal in the 21st minute for her team-leading 14th of the season. Just 2:04 later the Saints doubled their lead as Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.) pushed the ball into the net during a post-corner kick scrum.

Freshman Kaylee Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.) sliced the Saints lead in half in the 78th minute, receiving a through-ball down the right corner of the box from Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.). Badger and the Lasers would have multiple scoring chances late into the game, but could not capitalize.

Freshman Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) recorded two saves for the Lasers in the loss. Both Lexi Gawron (South Hadley, Mass.) and Kennedy Davignon (Woodstock, Conn.) split the action in net for Emmanuel, recording two and four saves respectively.
