Lasell Women’s Soccer defeats Saint Joseph (Conn.)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Lasell College clinched its sixth straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer regular season title Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Senior Day at the USJ Soccer Field.

Lasell won its fourth game in a row to improve to 11-4 overall and 10-0 in conference play, while USJ winds up its regular season at 7-7-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the GNAC. The Blue Jays will be the #8 seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament, and will travel to top-seeded Lasell for a quarterfinal game on Saturday, October 27, at noon.

Junior Caitlin Rotonnelli (Meredith, N.H.) gave the Lasers the only goal they would need just six minutes into the game, scoring unassisted for her third of the season. Senior Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.) doubled the lead for Lasell midway through the first half with her eighth of the season.

Senior Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) added her third of the season early in the second half on a goal set up by classmate Carly Zdanek (Medford, N.J.) to round out the scoring.

Lasell finished with just a 13-12 advantage in shots and an 8-2 margin in corner kicks. The Lasers got 27 players into the game, including reserve goalkeeper Kyla Bragg (Sanford, Maine), who made two saves in the final 16 minutes. Freshman Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) started in goal and earned the victory with five saves in the first 74 minutes.

The Lasers will be back in action on Monday with a make-up game at home against GNAC foe Albertus Magnus College, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Taylor Field.
