Lasell Women’s Soccer blanks Simmons for GNAC victory

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist Saturday as Lasell College blanked Simmons University, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer game at Daly Field.

The Lasers recorded their seventh win in a row, improving to 8-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play, while Simmons drops to 7-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the GNAC. Lasell has won 13 straight GNAC regular season contests dating back to last season, and remains the only undefeated team in conference play this year.

Senior Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) scored the only goal Lasell would need just two minutes into the game, when she picked up a loose ball in the goal mouth and deposited her second goal of the season. The Lasers doubled their lead in the 15th minute on senior Morgan Pinksten's (Pelham, N.H.) second goal of the season, converting a corner kick by Badger with a header near the right post. Sophomore Paige Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) also picked up an assist on the goal.

Badger finished off the scoring with less than three minutes left in the first half with her sixth of the season, lifting a shot from 30 yard out into the top left corner of the goal.

Lasell out-shot the Sharks 10-3 in the half and 23-5 for the game, but neither team was able to score in the second half.

Freshman goalie Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) made four saves for Lasell to record her second clean sheet of the season and improve her record to 7-3.  Senior Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) made nine saves in a busy day in the Sharks goal.

Lasell returns home to play its next three games on Taylor Field, beginning Tuesday with a non-conference match-up against Western Connecticut State University (4:00 p.m.). Simmons hits the road on Wednesday for a GNAC encounter at Albertus Magnus College (6:00 p.m.)
