Lasell Women’s Soccer defeats Suffolk in GNAC match-up

NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Kaylee Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored two goals as Lasell College blanked Suffolk University, 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer game at Taylor Field.

The Lasers won their fifth game in a row to improve to 5-3 overall and 5-0 in the GNAC, while Suffolk falls to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

It was a scoreless game for most of the first half, until Contreras collected a loose ball off a Suffolk defender and blasted a shot from short range into the right side of the goal. The Lasers had a 10-1 margin in shots in the first half but only a one-goal lead.

Contreras doubled the Laser lead on a breakaway goal 10 minutes into the second half. Junior Caitlin Rotonnelli (Meredith, N.H.) tacked on a third goal for Lasell in the 67th minute, finishing off a cross from sophomore Narissa Libby (Gorham, Maine), and Libby rounded out the scoring with her first career goal with three minutes remaining.

Lasell finished with a 21-4 advantage in shots, and a 3-0 margin in corner kicks. Freshman Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) made four saves to post her first career shutout, while freshman Allison Rodrigues (North Andover, Mass.) made eight saves at the other end.

The Lasers are idle until next Wednesday, October 3, when they play a 7:00 p.m. GNAC contest at Saint Joseph's College (Maine). Suffolk are on the road again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Rivier University.
