Lasell Women’s Soccer too strong for Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – Senior Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) and junior Melissa Vasquez (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored two goals apiece and senior Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) added three assists Wednesday evening as Lasell College rolled past Anna Maria College, 11-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer game at Amcat Field.

Freshman Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) opened the scoring less than a minute after the opening whistle and Lasell never looked back. Zdanek tallied her two goals less than a minute apart in the ninth minute, both assisted by Morais, to extended the margin to 3-0. Junior Olivia Austin (Burlington, Mass.) notched her first goal of the season as the Lasers took a 4-0 lead by halftime.

Senior Morgan Pinksten (Pelham, Mass.) scored in the first two minutes of the second half for her first of the season, and Vasquez knocked in back-to-back goals 12 seconds apart a minute later to blow the game open. Senior Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.) and freshmen Maria Henriquez (Malden, Mass.) and Maddie Burke (Pelham, N.H.) also tacked on second-half goals and the Lasers scored on an own goal as well.

Lasell finished with a 45-2 advantage in shots. Lasell goalies Kyla Bragg (Sanford, Maine) and Nikki Power (Norwood, Mass.) each played one half between the pipes, with Power making one second-half save. AMCAT goalie Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) had a busy night and finished with 14 saves.

The Lasers return home to host Rivier University Saturday in a GNAC affair at Taylor Field at 1:00 p.m. Anna Maria will be at home again this Friday at 4:00 PM against conference opponent Albertus Magnus.
