Lasell Women’s Soccer wins GNAC opener over Colby-Sawyer

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Lasell College women's soccer team scored four first half goals to earn their first win of the season Wednesday afternoon, defeating Colby-Sawyer College, 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at Brandeis University's Gordon Field.

Senior Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) led the way for the Lasers, scoring her first two goals of the season. Senior Emma Papile (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Paige Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) both added on their first goal of the year as well.

Scoring chances came few and far between for GNAC newcomer Colby-Sawyer, which was only able to manage one shot on goal, and freshman goalie Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) was able to make the save.

On the other side, it was a very busy day in net for Colby Sawyer's goalie Oona Bond. Lasell fired off 28 shots, including 19 on goal, and Bond recordedd 15 saves.

Zdanek's first goal came at 23:15, and it was assisted by Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) from the top of the box. It was a low lefty shot that landed in the bottom right corner of the net.

Not even two minutes later, Papile added on with a 30-yard rainbow that dropped right off of Bond's hands and found the back of the net.

Zdanek added her second goal at 30:18. After a sprint down the left side of the field, she cut to the middle and let loose a rocket that rang in the top left corner of the net.

As the first half started to wind down, Meissner added the finishing blow at 39:42, as she took on a defender one on one, and was able to sneak a shot just inside the left post for Lasell's fourth and final goal.

The Lasers return to Taylor Field on Saturday, September 15th to take on Johnson and Wales University at 1:00 p.m., while Colby Sawyer travels to Suffolk University to take on the Rams at 3:00 p.m.
