Lasell Women’s Soccer blanked by Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team, ranked No. 25 in Division III, scored twice in each half Sunday as the Judges handled their local rivals from Lasell College, 4-0. Brandeis improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Lasers fall to 0-2.

The Judges got all the scoring they would need in the 14th minute, when senior forward Julia Matson (Rockland, Mass.) one-timed a flick from rookie Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass.). It was the first goal of the season for Matson and Hunt's second assist.

In the 40th minute, junior Katie Hayes (Eau Claire, Wisc.) scored for the second-straight game, finishing a nice pass through the box by classmate Emma Spector (Needham, Mass.).

Sophomore midfielder Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass.) made it 3-0 in the 58th minute when her initial shot on a corner was cleared off the line, but she was able to rocket home the rebound.

Senior Julia Jaffe (Plantation, Fla.) closed out the scoring in the 65th minute, punching home a cross from rookie Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass.).

Brandeis dominated the box score, outshooting Lasell, 40-2, including 21-0 in shots on goal. The Judges also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lasell freshman goalie Angela Sanzari (North Haven,  Conn.) made 12 saves in the first 72 minutes, while junior reserve Kyla Bragg (Sanford, Maine) had three stops in the final 18.

Juniors Sierra Dana (Lombard, Ill.) and Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn.) were untested for the Judges in net, with each playing a half.

The Lasers return to action in search of their first win of the season Thursday at home against Keene State College at 4 p.m. The Judges are off until next Saturday afternoon, when they meet Johnson and Wales University at home at 1 p.m.
