Lasers Avenge Suffolk 3-1; Advance to Eighth Straight GNAC Semifinal

NEWTON, Mass. (10/28/17) --  The Lasell College women's soccer team advances to their eighth straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) semifinal after defeating eighth-seeded Suffolk University 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.

In the 30th minute, Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) scored her first of two goals, weaving through the Rams defense before finishing top right corner. Zdanek added another tally just five minutes later on a launched shot from 20 yards out to give the Lasers a 2-0 lead.

Caitlin Rotonnelli (Meredith, N.H.) added a goal of insurance in the 53rd minute, heading in a textbook pass from freshman Rachel Hogan (Norfolk, Mass.) just outside the box.  

Suffolk broke Lasell's hope of a clean sheet in the 79th minute, as Rams' leading scorer Alexandra Nagri (Salem, N.H.) cut the Lasers lead to 3-1, finishing in the top right corner from the top of the box.

Lasell outshot Suffolk 33-7, including 15-2 in the first half. The Rams did not record a shot until the 40th minute of play.

Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) made two saves in the victory, while Julia Fieldsend (Exeter, N.H.) had 13 saves in the playoff loss for the Rams.

The Lasers will host fourth-seeded St. Joseph's (Maine) in the GNAC Semifinals on Tuesday, October 31 at 2:30 p.m.
