Balanced Offense Sends Women's Soccer over Mount Ida 5-0

NEWTON, Mass. – Five different Lasers propelled the Lasell women's soccer team over crosstown rival Mount Ida College, 5-0, on Wednesday night at Alumni field. The Lasers move to 7-4 overall and 7-1 in GNAC play, while the Mustangs drop to 6-7 overall and 3-7 against league opponents.

Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) was able to beat Mustangs' goalkeeper Kelsey Parkin (Standish, Maine) to kick-off the scoring for the Lasers in the 14th minute with her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Mount Ida had its best scoring opportunity in the 20th minute from junior Lacey Perry (Westport, Mass.), but Lasell senior keeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) was able prevent the equalizer. Soon after, the Lasers increased their lead just before halftime with two quick goals from Sophia DiPlacido (Hudson, Mass.) and Caitlin Rotonnelli (Meredith, N.H.).

In the 58th minute, Perry had another promising bid on net for the Mustangs, but the shot was again denied by LaClair. Lasell added two more unassisted goals from Rachel Hogan (Norfolk, Mass.) and Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.) to push the final score to 5-0.

LaClair saved both Mustangs' shots on net in 68 minutes of work, and moves to 6-4 this season. Counterparts Nicole Power (Norwood, Mass.) and Hayden Wheeler (Hubbardston, Mass.) came in for second half relief, and were not contested throughout their time in net.

Despite the result, Parkin made a career-high 21 saves in the cage for the Mustangs.

The Lasers host Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on Saturday, October 14 at 2:45 p.m. in honor of the four graduating seniors. The Mustangs look to get back in the winning column with a non-conference tilt at Fisher College on Saturday as well at 1:00 p.m.
