Strong Second Half Sends Women's Soccer over Regis 3-1

WESTON, Mass. – The Lasell College women's soccer team used three goals in the second half to defeat Regis (Mass.) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The Lasers improve to 4-1 in GNAC play and 5-4 overall, while the Pride fall to 2-4-1 in the conference and 2-5-1 overall.

Both the Lasers and the Pride were unable to connect on scoring chances in the first half, despite a 16-2 shots advantage in favor of Lasell. Overall, the Lasers outshot Regis 31-5, while the Pride had a strong performance from keeper Kyrsten Drake (Loganville, Ga.) to keep the result at a two-goal margin.

The Lasers took control early in the second half, as junior Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.) headed in a corner in the 47th minute. Freshman Rachel Hogan (Norfolk, Mass.) set up the play, and sailed a ball into the middle from the left side, a perfect service that found the top of Badger's head for the ice breaker. Six minutes later, junior Morgan Pinksten (Pelham, N.H.) put the Lasers up 2-0, scoring from far outside the box off a feed from senior Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.).

Sophomore Caitlin Rotonnelli (Meredith, N.H.) sealed the Lasers victory in the 77th minute, finishing a corner from Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.).

Regis freshman Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.) broke shutout hope for the Lasers in the 90th minute, scoring from a shot inside the six yard box.

Senior Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) earned the win with one save in the full 90 minutes of play, while Drake had season-high 14 saves in net for the Pride.

Lasell and Regis return to GNAC action on Wednesday, October 4. The Lasers will host Emmanuel (Mass.) at 4:00 p.m., while the Pride will host Johnson & Wales at 6:30 p.m.
