Seniors Dominate in 8-2 Victory Over Rivier

NEWTON, Mass. (10/15/16) --  Senior Meg Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) scored four goals en route to an 8-2 victory against Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field.

With the win, the Lasers own the top spot in league play at 8-0-1, while the Raiders drop to 2-7 in the conference.

Prior to the game, Lasell College honored its six graduating seniors for their outstanding contributions to the women's soccer program. Cullen, Devon Day (Hartland, Vt.), Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine), Mack Kingman (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Caitlin Greco (Higganum, Conn.) and Bridget Makles (Newington, Conn.) have been the foundation of the three-time championship team during their tenure, and their presence on the field will truly be missed next year.

Day capped her senior day celebrations with a pair of goals of her own, while Smith and Makles each registered an assist in the event. Freshman Kayla Robideau (Athol, Mass.) registered her first collegiate marker in the victory, while GNAC Player of the Week Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) added a goal as well.

Greco earned the win in between the pipes for the Lasers, saving five of seven Rivier shots on frame.

The Lasers wasted little time getting on the board, as they fired a quick three goals into the back of the Raiders' net just 15 minutes into play. Cullen scored back-to-back goals to close the half, with Makles and freshman Paytne Walker (Hillsborough, N.JH) on the assist.

Cullen continued her dominance two minutes into the second half, as she blasted a shot that was mishandled by Rivier junior keeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.)

Day and Robideau used two of Lasell's 37 total shots to close out the game, next to two Raider goals scored by Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) and Maggie Cohoo (Derry, N.H.)

Lasell dominated the statistics column in shots, 37-6 and corner kicks 13-2.

Both teams jump back into GNAC action on Wednesday, October 19. The Lasers will host crosstown Rival Mount Ida College for a 3:30 p.m. contest, while the Raiders welcome Norwich for a game under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
