Lasers Shut Out Albertus Magnus 2-0

NEWTON, Mass. (9/28/16) – The Lasell College women's soccer team kept the top spot in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference following a 2-0 victory over Albertus Magnus Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field.

Sophomores Morgan Pinksten (Pelham, N.H.) and Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) scored for the second time in as many appearances as the Lasers advance to 5-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. The setback puts the Falcons at 4-5-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in GNAC play.

The Lasers peppered the Falcons' defense early as they fired off six shots before Pinksten finished a deflected shot from freshman Peytne Walker in the 38th minute. In the stretch, Albertus sophomore keeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) saved a pair of blasts on frame to keep the low scoring game intact.

Lasell's backline limited the Falcons' shots to just two - both on net - during the final 45, where junior net minder Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) stood tall to make both saves en route to her third shutout of the season.

As five minutes expired in the second frame, sophomore Emma Papile (Quincy, Mass.) set up Zdanek for the assurance goal with a perfectly placed cross to the six-yard-box.

LaClair's clean slate factors into her 0.62 goals-against average, which sets her first among GNAC stat leaders. Fenn finished the game with five saves in the full 90 minutes played.

Both teams resume crucial GNAC action on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00. The Lasers head to the University of Saint Joseph, who currently sit in third place, while the Falcons host the Saints of Emmanuel College.
