Women's Soccer Dominates Wellesley 4-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist as the visiting Lasers of Lasell College defeated Wellesley College soccer, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Lasell improves to 3-2-1 with the squad's third consecutive victory. The Blue drop to 4-3-0 on the year and 2-2 on their home field.

Cullen scored the game's first goal, and the eventual game-winning goal, at 8:21 of the first half. Classmate Devon Day (Hartland, Vt.) sent Cullen in on goal, dropping a pass over the Blue backline, where Cullen finished for her first of the season. The Lasers carried the 1-0 lead into the half, and late into the second stanza, before unleashing a three-goal flurry in the final ten minutes of play to secure the 4-0 victory over the host Blue.

Cullen set up the second Lasell goal at 82:33 when she ripped a shot off of Wellesley goalkeeper Erin Kelly (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) that landed at the feet of sophomore Carley Zdanek (Newton, N.J.). Zdanek then finished into the open net. Cullen would add her second goal just over a minute later, calmly chipping a shot over Kelly and in thanks to a feed from midfield by sophomore Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) for her second of the game.

The Lasers tacked on another goal in the final minute of play, as Alexis Olson (Warwick, R.I.) lofted her first career collegiate goal into the net on a long-range attempt from outside the penalty area.

Kelly finished with four saves in the second half for the Blue. Starter Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) turned back 11 shots in the opening half and drops to 4-3-0 on the season. For Lasell, junior Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) made five saves to improve to 3-2-1 with her second consecutive shutout.

Senior Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) and first year Julia Jung (Oakland, Calif.) each registered two shots for the Blue. Lasell had a 24-15 edge in shots in the game, while the Blue held a 3-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Lasell will return home to host Suffolk on Saturday, September 24, at 12:00 PM, while Wellesley will return to action Tuesday, September 27 when they host No. 9 Brandeis at 4:00 PM.
