Women's Soccer Drops Home Opener to Keene State

NEWTON, Mass. (9/7/16) – The Lasell women's soccer team dropped its home opener to the visiting Owls of Keene State College, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field. The Lasers drop to 0-2 this season while the Owls advance to 2-1.

Keene State netted the game-deciding marker in the 60th minute, as senior Brittany Tolla (Newtown, Conn.) went top-left after a scramble inside the box.

The Owls pressed the Lasers high in the first 45 and riffled off nine shots with three on frame. In the 25th minute, junior Kali Santino (West Chesterfield, N.H.) fired a rocket to the far post, nearly putting the visitors on the board, but was stopped on a diving save by junior keeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.).

The Lasers switched things up in the second half and ripped five shots total, all of which contested senior net minder Danielle Warhall (Spofford, N.H.). Wahall stood tall in the cage for Keene State, aiding the Owls to victory after Tolla capitalized on a defensive scramble by Lasell.

Overall, the Owls outshot the Lasers 19-11, while the Lasers held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Despite an outstanding eight saves in the contest, LaClair (0-2) suffered the loss in net, while Warhall (2-1) recorded five saves of her own in the winning effort.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, September 10 at 1:00 p.m.

The Lasers will begin their pursuit of a seventh league championship when they host the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University, while the Owls welcome the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College.
