Smith Lifts Women's Soccer over Rams in Overtime 3-2

NEWTON, Mass. (10/28/15) – Sophomore Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) sent the Lasell women's soccer team over the visiting Rams of Framingham State 3-2 in non-conference overtime action on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field. With the win, the Lasers close out their regular season at 12-4-2, while the Rams sink to 9-6-2 overall.

Juniors Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) and Mack Kingman (East Bridgewater, Mass.) joined Smith in the scoring for Lasell, as senior Marissa Miele (Hudson, Mass.) and sophomore Michelle Nardi (Williamsburg, Mass.) added a goal apiece for the Rams.

Lasell got on the board first in the 7th minute when senior Leah Suto (Oxford, Conn.) sent a ball over the top to find Cullen who found the far-post netting. The Lasers knocked in the second goal eight minutes later as Kingman sent in a one-time volley off a cross from senior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.).

Following the halftime break, the Rams answered the 2-0 deficit in the 48th minute when Miele lofted in her seventh goal of the season, just above freshman keeper Carly Heintz (Pelham, N.J.). As the sheets of rain poured over Taylor Field, the Rams continued to pepper the Lasers with high-pressure offense.  With 6:49 left to go in regulation, Nardi fired off a shot that was stopped by a sprawling Heintz, but was there to capitalize on her own rebound for the 2-2 equalizer.

At 88:55, Cullen flew past a Rams' defender on a breakaway situation, but freshman keeper Keyonzie Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.) came off her line to force overtime action at Taylor Field.

Just 55 seconds into extra time, Smith tapped in her first goal of the season to give the home team the 3-2 victory.

Lasell owned a 26-14 advantage in shots, and didn't allow a single corner kick compared to Framingham's six.

Heinz held off seven of nine shots on net for the Lasers and shifts to 2-0-1 this season, while Gagne-Lamoureux recorded nine saves in 45:55 of relief and suffers her first loss at 3-1. Freshman Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) started the game in net for the Rams, and stopped five of seven shots on frame.

The Lasers will host Rivier University on Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal match, while the Rams wrap up their regular season in a MASCAC contest at MCLA at 12:00 p.m.
