Women's Soccer Blanks Monks 4-0 on Senior Day

NEWTON, Mass. (10/17/15) – The Lasell College women's soccer team shut out the Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 4-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. With the win, the Lasers continue to lead the conference at 8-0-1 and 9-4-2 overall, while the Monks shift to 5-4 in the GNAC and 8-8 this season.

Senior Leah Suto (Oxford, Conn.) registered her first goal of the season for Lasell, while freshman Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) and juniors Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) and Mack Kingman (East Bridgewater, Mass.) teamed up for the remaining tallies.

After 21 minutes of scoreless play, junior Devon Day (Hartsdale, Vt.) lined up for a corner, where Suto took a one-time volley to the bottom left of the Monks' netting to open the scoring. Zdanek bumped the hosts' advantage to two at 33:38, as she fired a long-shot from the right flank just past the left side of Monks' sophomore keeper Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.)

The Lasers wasted little time getting on the board in the second half, as Cullen buried a cross from senior midfielder Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.). At 77:46, the Lasers looked to grab the third goal of the game when freshman Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) put a shot on net in a scuffle in the box, but Troup was there to make the save for the Monks. Lasell was relentless in the following plays as Kingman took a long blast from just outside the 18-yard-box to secure the 4-0 win for the hosts.

Sophomore netminder Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) registered her sixth shutout of the season alongside four saves on the day, while Troup recorded ten saves in the effort.

The Lasers dominated the shot column 28-6, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Prior to today's contest, the Lasell College women's soccer program honored its five graduating seniors for their outstanding contributions on and off the field. Suto and Munnelly, along with teammates Sarah Quintal (Richmond, Vt.), Sarah Jones (Duxbury, Mass.) and Elizabeth Qua (Saint Albans, Vt.) have represented the Lasell women's soccer program with leadership and perseverance, and will truly be missed.

Both teams jump back into GNAC road action on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Lasers will travel to Mount Ida for a local conference rivalry, as the Monks head to Boston, Mass. to face the Saints of Emmanuel College.
