Wheaton Blanks Women's Soccer 2-0

NORTON, Mass. - The Lasell College women's soccer team fell to Wheaton College 2-0 in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. Lasell falls to 8-4-2 overall with the setback, while Wheaton moves to 9-5-1 this season.

After a relatively quiet first half of action, Wheaton finally got on the board with a goal by Caren McCarthy in the 69th minute. Playing the ball over the top from the right flank, senior Julia Cipriano found an oncoming McCarthy, who chested the ball into the net.

Cipriano netted a goal of her own five minutes later with an assist from sophomore Megan Healy. Collecting the ball in the midfield, Healy played a perfect through ball to Cipriano, who dribbled past three defenders. The senior calmly pulled the Lasell keeper off her line and slipped the ball past her into the far post netting.

Lasell's most promised shot on goal came in the final two minutes of action as Devon Day (Hartland, Vt.) and Sarah Jones  (Duxbury, Mass.) fired back-to-back shots that warranted two saves by the Lyon keeper.

Wheaton outshot Lasell 15-6, while the two sides were deadlocked in corners with two each.

Senior Taylor Wilson earned her first win of the season, coming up with six saves in 90 minutes of action. Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) suffered the loss for Lasell after seeing 76 minutes between the pipes with six saves on the day.

The Lasers return to home-contest conference action on Saturday, October 17, as they host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at 12:00 p.m. as a part of Lasell's Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend in honor of this year's graduating seniors.
