LaClair Records Career-High 11 Saves as Women's Soccer Ties JWU 1-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/3/15) – The Lasell College women's soccer teamed tied Johnson and Wales University 1-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on Saturday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex. The Lasers' first conference draw since 2013 brings them to 5-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats played to their first tie of the season at 5-5-1 and 3-3-1 in the GNAC.

After 45 minutes of scoreless soccer, junior Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, courtesy of a pass from junior Devon Day (Hartsdale, Vt.). The score would hold through the 70th minute, until JWU sophomore Taylor Hopkins (Warminster, Pa.) used a cross from freshman Christina Schneider (Walden, N.Y.) to head the ball just over sophomore keeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.).

Neither team would score in the remaining two minutes of regulation, as both teams headed into the overtime block with momentum and focus. JWU pressed Lasell's defensive line immediately, and fired six shots on the visitors in the first overtime stanza alone. LaClair came up big for the Lasers in three consecutive situations to stop the hosts from scoring the golden goal.

The Lasers saw their last glimpse of an opportunity with two minutes left in the second overtime, as freshman Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) flew up the right field flank and took a long shot to net that was just wide.

LaClair stopped a career-high 11 saves in the effort, while senior Alex Pace (East Greenwich, RI.) recorded four saves.

JWU doubled up on the Lasers in shots, 19-8, while the Lasers held a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams will jump into home-contest conference action on Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m. The Lasers will host the AMCATS of Anna Maria College, while the Wildcats welcome the Blue Jays of The University of Saint Joseph's, Conn.
