First-Years Fire Women's Soccer Past Norwich 11-2

NEWTON, Mass. (10/1/15)- The Lasell College women's soccer team defeated the Cadets of Norwich University 11-2 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match up on Thursday afternoon at Taylor Field. With the win, the Lasers extend their overall record to 5-3-1 and remain undefeated in the conference at 4-0, while the Cadets drop to 2-6-1 this season and 0-3-1 in GNAC play.

Junior Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) scored three goals in the victory, while sophomore Devon Day (Hartland, Vt.) and junior Mack Kingman (East Bridgewater, Mass.) found the back of the net for their second goal of the 2015 campaign. In the winning effort, freshmen Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.), Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.), Hannah Klein (Bristol, R.I.), Gillian Campbell (Pittsfield, Mass.), and Maggie Flowers (Plymouth, Mass.) each registered their first goal in a Carolina and White uniform.

The Lasers wasted little time getting on the board, as Cullen received a diagonal through ball from junior Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) to put the Lasers up 1-0. At 20:38, Cullen dished the ball to sophomore Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) for a quick give-and-go, and found the back of the net for her third of the game, and her second hat trick of the season.

Morais chipped in her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, however, the visitors were quick to react. Freshman Jordan Kacur (Red Creek, N.Y.) took the ball down the left field flank and sent a shot in that was stopped by freshman goalkeeper Macie Sicard (Colchester, Vt.). Cadets' freshman Ariana Lacombe (Groton, Mass.) was there for the rebound, and placed the ball in the left side of the net to put Norwich on the board.

With six minutes left in regulation, the Cadets struck again as senior Julianne Muse (Wakefield, Mass.) set herself up for a breakaway situation, and took two quick touches past Sicard for her first goal of the season.

Lasell senior starter Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) extended her record to 3-4 with the win, and recorded two saves in the game. Sicard took over for LaClair halfway through the first half, and stopped five of seven shots faced on net. Cadets' freshman Brooke Dewyea (Piercefield, N.Y.) drops to 2-2 overall and recorded seven saves before sophomore net minder Leandra Flores-Nieves (Colorado Springs, Colo.) entered the game in the second half and registered eight saves.

The Lasers dominated the Cadets in shots, 41-10, and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams jump back into GNAC action on Saturday, October 3. The Lasers will head to Providence, R.I. for a 5:00 p.m. game against Johnson and Wales, while the Cadets host Emmanuel College for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
