Lynch Sisters Propel Women's Soccer to GNAC Final

NEWTON, Mass. (11/05/2014) - The Lasell Women's Soccer team advances to their 5th consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference final after blanking Albertus Magnus College 4-0 Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field. With the win, the Lasers push their record to 16-4, while the Falcons conclude their season at 11-8-1.

Seniors Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) and Kayla Lynch (Dover, N.H.) teamed up for Lasell's scoring surge. Bridget Lynch earned a hat trick on the day, while Kayla Lynch tallied one.

After 34 minute of scoreless play, the Lasers got on the board when the Lynch sisters rallied together to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, junior Sarah Jones (Duxbury, Mass.) gave Bridget Lynch a long feed through the middle of the field, allowing her to break past the Falcons' defense and net the second goal of the game.

Bridget Lynch followed up in the 60th minute when she scored off a header that was just out of range for Albertus junior keeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.). Sophomore Devon Day (Hartford, Vt.) earned the assist on the goal to give the Lasers a 3-0 lead.

The Falcons presented a scoring opportunity in the 67th minute when sophomore Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Angelica Piccilliro (Naugatuck, Conn.) fired back-to-back shots on net, but were denied the opportunity from Lasell freshman keeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.).

Bridget Lynch secured the win with 13:14 left in regulation when she put away a frame by junior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.). Bridget Lynch is on the hunt for 100 career goals, as she enters the Championship game with 97.

LaClair had a total of six saves for the Lasers, while junior keeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) stopped five for the Falcons.

Lasell looks to clinch their 5th GNAC Championship title on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00 PM. The Lasers will host the victor of the Emmanuel College and Johnson and Wales University match, which will be played tonight at Roberto Clemente Field at 7:00 PM.
