Women's Soccer Handles Rivier, 10-0 in GNAC Action

NEWTON, Mass. (9/19/14) – The Lasell College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play and 4-2 on the season with a 10-0 victory over visiting Rivier University. The Raiders slipped to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in GNAC matches.

Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) scored a pair of goals for Lasell, Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) scored twice and tallied four assists in the contest. Kayla Lynch (Dover, N.H.), Leah Suto (Oxford, Conn.), Bridget Makles (Newington, Conn.), Kristen Hill (Pittsfield, Mass.), Tia Cloutier (Rollinsford, N.H.) and Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) each scored goals for the Lasers. Leah Pappalardo (Marshfield, Mass.) and Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) split the match in net for Lasell, combining for a shutout.

Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimach, N.H.) made 11 saves in goal for Rivier, while Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) provided the offense for Rivier with a pair of shots.

Lasell controlled possession throughout most of the opening half, with Bridget Lynch scoring in the 17th minute to put Lasell in front 1-0. Leah Suto scored on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 27th minute, then Casey Meissner finished a ball off the head of Bridget Lynch following a service from Sarah Quintal to give Lasell a 3-0 lead. Lasell made it a 4-0 score when Bridget Makles hammered home a cross from Bridget Lynch to put the Lasers in front in the 37th minute.

The Lasers then added six more goals in the second half, on their way to a 10-0 victory. Lasell will return to the pitch on Sunday September 21st at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Amherst College. Rivier will visit Daniel Webster on Tuesday September 24th with kick-off slated for 4:00 p.m.
