Women's Soccer Opens GNAC Season 1-0 with 3-1 Win at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. (9/13/14) – The Lasell College women's soccer team kicked off their Great Northeast Athletic Conference season with a 3-1 victory at Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon. The Lasers moved to 1-0 in the GNAC and 3-2 overall while Anna Maria dropped to 0- in league play and 3-3 for the year.

Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) scored two goals and assisted on a third for Lasell, while Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) added her second of the season and Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) and Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) each tallied assists for Lasell. Sarah LeClair (Belchertown, Mass.) made three saves to earn the win in net for the Lasers.

Kate Kneeland's performance in goal helped the AMCats stay in the contest as she made 21 saves on the day, facing 40 shots, 24 of which were on frame. Cristina Turley was responsible for four of the AMCats six shots and scored their lone goal of the contest.

Bridget Lynch got Lasell on the board in the 8th minute, knocking home a ball served into the box by Erin Smith to make it 1-0. Lasell would fire 19 more shots at Kneeland throughout the half, but failed to convert on any of them as Knneland made nine saves in the period.

Megan Cullen drove the endline early in the second half and her cross found Lynch in the box where she finished past a diving Kneeland to put Lasell in front 2-0 in the 48th minute of play. A 12-yard strike by Meissner on a pass from Bridget Lynch gave the Lasers a 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute and gave the visitors a cushion.

Anna Maria's Paige Leighton sent a free kick into the box from 30 yards out that found the foot of Cristina Turley at the top left corner of the six-yard box which she finished to pull back a goal and make it 3-1 in Lasell's favor. The Lasers held on from there to pick up the victory.

Lasell will take the field on Friday September 19th when they host Rivier University at home.
